Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life

Finding the Path to the Father through Jesus

Jesus’ words in John 14:6, ‘I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me,’ are profound and hold great significance for believers. In this blog post, we will explore the meaning behind this powerful statement and how it impacts our faith.

When Jesus refers to himself as ‘the way,’ he is highlighting the fact that He is the only path to salvation and eternal life with God. In a world filled with numerous ideologies and beliefs, Jesus makes it clear that He is the exclusive way to the Father. This exclusivity can be difficult for some to accept, but it is an essential truth of Christianity.

Many believe that works are the answer. If we live with good intentions, we are kind, we are compassionate and empathetic towards others, if we just don’t hassle or harm others, how can God deny us? The Truth is, we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen as found in Hebrews 11:1.

James further explains that faith and works go together. That by our works, faith is perfected. In James 2:18-20:

18 But someone will say, ” you have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe there si one God. You do well. Even the demons believe- and tremble! 20 But do you want to know O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

We are saved by grace through faith. We have faith that Jesus is the Son of God, the Living Word in the flesh. He is the way, the path, the Priest, the advocate who goes to God on our behalf. There is no way to enter the presence of God without Jesus. He is the only way!

Furthermore, Jesus declares Himself as ‘the truth.’ In a world full of deception and falsehood, Jesus embodies absolute truth. He is the embodiment of God’s Word and the perfect representation of who God is. By following Jesus, we can find the ultimate truth that brings clarity and purpose to our lives.

I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.”

Jesus solidifies He is the truth in John 8:18. He is referencing the witness of two between Jesus and God.

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. John 14:15-18

As in John 14 above, Jesus explains that He will pray on our behalf and the Helper, Holy Spirit, will abide in us who is the Spirit of truth. Again, reiterating that the world cannot receive the Helper because the world neither sees nor knows Him. But you come to know Him as you receive Jesus.

Lastly, Jesus proclaims Himself as ‘the life.’ This statement emphasizes that true and abundant life can only be found in him. Apart from Jesus, we are spiritually dead, disconnected from God’s life-giving presence. Through Jesus, we are not only granted eternal life but also experience a transformed and fulfilling life on earth.

There are multiple scriptures in which Jesus is proclaimed as the Life. He is the Bread of Life as stated in John 6:48

I am the bread of life. John 6:48

in 1 John, we see this explanation expanded further to express that life is in Jesus and if we do not choose Jesus, we do not trust and believe God. If we do not believe God, we do not have life, but we have death as the wages of sin.

He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

We can see clearly throughout the Bible that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Once we understand the only way is Jesus, we can truly embrace the gifts He provides far beyond salvation. We can find redemption, freedom of the debt of sin, love, compassion, wisdom, provision, all these things and most importantly, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is the priest and has completed the law so that we may have the path to God. The sacrifice on the Jesus made on the cross pays the debt we all hold and clears us from it. The authority and power of His Resurrection gives power to the resurrection of our spirit and we become a new creation in Him.

Jesus is the Living Word and His words here are meant to call us to recognize the need for a Savior and to place our faith in Him. Jesus desires for all people to come to the Father and experience the love and grace He offers.

As believers, we are called to embrace Jesus’ words and live out the truth they hold. We must strive to follow His example, walking in His ways and sharing His love with others. By doing so, we become a living testimony to the power and truth of Jesus.

It is the acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior that we become able to live in Him. When we abide in Christ and He abides in us, we can bear fruit and that’s when we can truly see the love of God.

Blessings and peace to you on your journey with Jesus!
